POEM REVIEWS

1.Modern Poem

'The Solitary Reaper' by William Wordsworth

The Solitary Reaper is a classic example of a poem from the romantic era written by William Wordsworth. It’s about how a man, most probably Wordsworth is affected by a song being sung by this woman.
In this poem, the port has described a reaper and the place beautifully. This poem demonstrates how inspiration is endless; it can even be heard \"among the farthest Hebrides\" (Hebrides are some islands at the coast of Ireland). He first got inspiration from a woman cutting wheat in the fields and still till this day, as the music in his heart bores "long after it was heard no more".As the poet describes, one tends to picture the scenes and ultimately one feels the emotions like lonliness which the reaper felt. Her loneliness gives freedom and naturalness to her movement and expression. Because of the absence of artificiality, her song and the girl herself became the part of nature.I was deeply moved while reading it. Wordsworth had transferred music into words, which holds still the same emotion. Though he listened and we read, we share the same kind of feeling. I am grateful to the change he offered in poetry style, to express the common life and the essential passions of heart. It is hard to believe how can one be so involve with nature. The word 'solitary' simply means loneliness, sense of absence, limited, individualism, independence, self-reliance, cold and a tensed atmosphere. It reinforces the aspect of individuality. The poem's structure is simple--the first stanza sets the scene, the second offers two bird comparisons for the music, the third wonders about the content of the songs, and the fourth describes the effect of the songs on the speaker--and its language is natural.

2.Classical Poem

'Between Us Now' by Thomas Hardy

This poem speaks about two loved ones who are no more in a relationship. The line like 'Do you now known me' speaks that there were some kind of misunderstandings between them. One can feel the pain, missing, lonliness etc..The prose sounds a depth of despair and a willingness to hope.It is very much similar to the real life. One can easily relate it to one's own memories in life.Though its a classic poem one can easily understand the essence because of the simple language used.I really enjoyed in reading the poem.

Why PGDM?

PGDM course is offered by IIM s and few reputed colleges. Most of the companies prefer PGDM graduates. Infact PGDM is more practical oriented and enables to get more industrial exposure when compared to MBA. Apart from the usual curriculum there are many add-ons in PGDM. The course is regularly updated as per the need of the industry and students are getting an opportunity to learn in an industrial set up with frequent industial interact, visits to industry etc. Also there is no worries about examination and no question about the results like for many universities results are declared very late which may end up in losing the job offered by companies during campus recruitments.

The PGDM programmes are offered by autonomous institutions which are student centric.  The Institutions are responsive to industry needs and they continuously change their curricula and syllabi to address the concerns of the corporate world and to incorporate new developments in the discipline.  More importantly, they offer high value added courses and workshop to enhance the employability of the students and to brush up their life skills. Hence they not only focus on academics but also on personal and professional dimensions of a student.

PGDM programmes seem to have edge over an MBA programme in India because of their autonomous, innovative, value adding features

Why joining PGDM?

The main reason i joined PGDM is because it is a degree designed to give you the ability to develop your career to its fullest potential, at an accelerated pace. Many of my friends suggested me to take Mtech instead of  PGDM.  But Mtech is a very constrained degree compared to PGDM. PGDM has a very wide scope compared to MBA. Curriculum of PGDM is flexible and can change every term as per the demands of the industry. But the MBA curriculum has to follow University Syllabi and changes in several years. PGDM provide another benefit, it leads to better placements, by providing industry relevant knowledge that is regularly updated and also PGDM provide internships in reputed companies. . Usually it is said that MBA grads lack the updation expected by the industry. This is actually a good platform for those people who are opting placements and also for the budding entrepreneurs. And finally PGDM from PSGIM, PGDM degree is a recognized brand. The particular college you attend will also have specific brand that will help you to get more exposure based on the college’s reputation. The strength of a college’s brand is based on leading and successful entrepreneurs the college has provided, and the reach of its alumni and industry network. PSGIM is a reputed college with all of the above benefits...And these all are the reasons for joining PGDM from PSGIM.

REVIEW OF POEM "A BRIEF LOVE LETTER"

Nizar Tawfiq Qabbani was a Syrian diplomat, poet and publisher. His poetic style combines simplicity and elegance in exploring themes of love, eroticism, feminism, religion, and Arab Nationalism. He is one of the most revered contemporary poets in the Arab World. “A Brief Love Letter” is one of his famous poem. This is a poem with great flow. He starts the poem by addressing his love. He expresses that everything in her is princely. He says that this short book contains us and tomorrow when he return the pages, he feels that everything will be longing to be green. He also mention his love one to ignore what people say about him. He ends the poem by questioning “what would the world have been if we had not been together?” This is a perfect poem which expresses true love. The poet starts the poem with a rhythmic flow. This poem also shows that the poet is passionate about his love.

REVIEW OF POEM- TELEVISION

Roald Dahl was born in Wales in 1916. His first book “The Gremlins” was published in the year 1943. He is the author of popular books such as “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “James and the Giant Peach”. Besides writing books, Dahl was also a poet. He blended both humor and truth into his poetry and released several poetry collections. “Television” is one of his famous poem. This poem is a warning for parents, if literature was absent from their children’s lives. This is a poem with great flow and rhyme scheme. It’s fun to read and captivating to children. The poem has a very clear message to parents and children. Dahl begins by introducing the danger of the television.  Dahl describes children who watch TV by stating that they “slop and lounge about,” and “sit and stare and stare and sit/Until they're hypnotized by it.” The television brainwashes children and Dahl even suggests that it causes them to be “absolutely drunk/With all that shocking ghastly junk.” Television actually becomes a harmful addiction for children who watch too much and become “hypnotized” by that fictional world. Television doesn’t allow children to use their imagination, think, and wonder.  Dahl is passionate about allowing children to have the power to imagine through literature. This is a perfect poem to show children the importance of literature. Dahl uses the humour to convey an important message. He encourages reading and shows how it can be fun and interesting.

VISIT TO ‘FUN REPUBLIC’

Fun Republic Mall is the second mall in Coimbatore city from E-City ventures of the Essel group. It is located on Avinashi Road in Peelamedu area in the city and it is in the center of many educational institutions. The mall brings together some of the top brands in the retail sector like Shoppers Stop, Reliance Group, Lee, Anita Dongre and the fast food giant McDonalds etc... from different business segments. This mall is mainly targeting the student population nearby as well as the middle and upper classes.
The significant feature about the mall, apart from its location, is its design. The six level building  has a large dome-shaped structure and front view of the shops and restaurants of the mall faces a beautiful atrium. The total number of retailers in the mall is around 50.Here Shoppers Stop is the key brand and another popular retailer is the Reliance Mart. There are two basement levels provided for car parking. The Reliance Mart where most of the families opt for daily shopping is placed at the ground floor which is convenient for them to purchase and thus it saves time. The entrance of the mall you can see the fast food giant McDonald’s. Because of this it attracts more customers to the mall. For every one who visits the mall it provides a good arena to refresh relax and enjoy.
Some of the problems faced by the customers are like AC was not functioning properly, less number of lifts and there are no indications for the lift, escalator was not working, latrines were not properly cleaned, parking area is very dusty. One of the recommendations suggested by a customer was to introduce a desi restaurant in the ground floor so that as soon as they are done with their shopping they can hog in restaurant instead of climbing till the sixth floor. Another complaint by the customer is the unwanted unnecessary security checking’s which irritate the customers. We would like to suggest that mall should bring in some more entertainment like scary house, play area and  more game stalls inorder to attract more youngsters.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF NAFEESA

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF NAFEESA

Here is Nafeesa,a business woman, who runs the famous C.K.Mess near to our college. She is very god fearing person and she believes that as her success mantra. We are very happy to introduce such a vibrant person who dares to walk out from the four walls of the orthodox Muslim kitchen to the C.K.Mess. She never holds a MBA degree, but she manages her business successfully for 12 years. Her success is evident just by seeing the queue of the customers who are waiting for their yummy biriyani.

About her family, she is married to Mr. Mohammed. They are basically from Malappuram a small district in Kerala and they are settled in Coimbatore for the past fifteen years. She is the mother of six children. It’s very clear that she is a good home maker too. She has got well awareness about today’s world and its pros and cons. She also advised us to be more cautious and careful which sounds like a motherly affection. We were very happy to meet such a wonderful personality in our life. We wanted to spend some more time with her, but she was very busy in dealing with her customer. We are very proud to introduce Nafeesa and her C.K.Mess to the whole class.

Smartphone mania

On the 20th anniversary of the first smart phone, to whom do we owe the gratitude for this both time-saving and time-wasting device???

We have many  nominees to choose from ,some of them  are obvious and others are not.
Lets have a look at the nominees
Apple,RIM,google, sony, ericsson, nokia, symbian, microsoft, motorola and IBM.All of these companies have been innovators in their own way. All of them are patent farms in every sense of the word.

This funny little device has a good deal in bringing the world in one hand. The biggest sensation we can see that even a new born baby is introduced to this showpiece and the chain reaction of this stroke is that masters have become the slaves of their own masterpiece.
Lets see some of the features of our pocket jewel.
Web browsing,multimedia,GPS,Bluetooth,application market place,Icon driven interface,SMS,Camera,Voice recognition.
From all these features its clear that instead of using a 15 inch laptop its better to use a palm size smartphone. So in future we can expect a zero laptop manufacture zone.
